Project: New Website Design
French Version Launch: 2016
Original English Version Launch: 2015
Lynne C. Levesque: Historian and Writer
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
This website and blog is devoted to Lynne Levesque’s journey as she uncovers and writes the story of her eighth great grandmother, Jeanne Marguerite Chevalier, set against the backdrop of the history of France and New France at that time.
The English version of the website was created in 2015. An automated RSS-to-email blog subscription mailing list was set up so family and friends interested in her research could follow Lynne’s progress as she tells the story of Jeanne’s life.
In 2016, a French version of the website was created so Lynne’s Canadian and French audience could follow the story, too. A French RSS-to-email blog subscription mailing list was created for those readers, as well.
- The Polylang multilingual plugin was used to create a French version of the website. A language switcher button is located in the header on every page so site visitors can switch between the English and French versions of the website from anywhere on the site.
- The blog has a sticky post describing the contents of the blog, along with a link to a suggested table of contents so readers can follow timelines and topics more easily.
- A Books page displays Lynne’s recent publications on her ancestor, Jeanne Chevalier, with links to purchase them in English and French.
- Blog readers can subscribe to a mailing list to receive email notices about new blog posts in English or French.
Blog Alert Mailing Lists in French and English
So followers of Lynne’s blog don’t miss a post, I set up an RSS-to-email feed mailing list in English and a second one in French. The automated system sends an email alert to subscribers immediately after a post has been published.
